1. T cell mediated immunity in malaria and mycobacterial infection : a protective role for gd+ T cells
Sammanfattning : T cell mediated immunity is essential against intracellular infections. Studies of cell mediated immunity are important for the optimal design and development of effective vaccines. Identifying correlates of protective immunity will also enable measurement of vaccine efficiency. LÄS MER
2. T cells in Autoimmunity: studies on murine type II collagen-induced arthritis
Sammanfattning : Collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) is a mouse model for rheumatoid arthritis, in which autoimmunity is induced by immunization with type II collagen (CII), a cartilage-specific protein. In the present work, alpha/beta T cells were shown to be required for CIA and for the production of anti-CII IgG antibodies, whereas gamma/delta T cells were neither necessary nor sufficient for development of CIA. 3. Studies of the recognition and activation of natural killer cells
Sammanfattning : Natural killer (NK) cells mediate part of the innate immune response that impedes the spread of invading microorganisms and shapes the downstream adaptive immune response. NK cells spontaneously kill tumor cells and other cells upon contact. Killing requires engagement of germline encoded receptors that mediate positive and negative signals. LÄS MER
4. Immune regulation of herpes simplex virus type 2 infection: Special emphasis on the transcription factor T-bet
Sammanfattning : Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) is a sexually transmitted pathogen that infects the genital tract mucosa as well as local sensory neurons. It is the most common cause of genital ulcer disease in humans. The infection gives rise to a wide range of symptoms, ranging from severe and painful recurrent episodes of genital herpes to silent infection. LÄS MER
5. Immunological properties of dendritic cells in HIV-1 infection
Sammanfattning : Dendritic cells (DCs) capture antigens for intracellular processing to form MHC-peptide complexes involved in the generation of antigen specific T cell responses. After encountering microbes, DCs migrate from the periphery to the regional lymph nodes. LÄS MER
