Tre perspektiv på att mäta och värdera förluster av nyckelkompetenser

Sammanfattning: During the next 3-7 years a high number of employees will leave many Swedish companies due to retirement, possibly leading to companies losing their key competencies. The loss of key competencies may have negative consequences on the competitiveness of a company and its productivity and efficiency. The preservation and development of competencies are critical issues to these companies. Therefore, the question discussed in this licentiate report is: How can companies prevent the loss of key competencies by strategic competence supply? The purpose of this study is to study how losses of key competencies may be measured and valued. The purpose is also to develop a model that companies can use to prevent the loss of key competencies. Existing methods and models based on three different theoretical approaches, i.e. a personnel economic view, a competence economic view, and a utility theoretical view, are used to study how competence can be measured and valued. An empirical study was conducted at three Swedish companies within the processing industry; SSAB, Boliden AB, and LKAB. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and by using secondary data from the companies' financial and personnel records. The results indicate that companies have to focus on strategic managerial methods that preserve, develop, and renew key competencies. From this study a method is developed by recombining various parts of existing models and by adding new aspects. However, the method has not been empirically tested.
