Liknelser och läsningar. Reception av liknelseberättelser ur Lukasevangeliet, kapitel 10–15, i predikoutkast för Svenska kyrkan 1985–2013
Sammanfattning: This thesis looks at present-day ecclesial use of the Bible by investigating the reception of narrative parables from the Gospel of Luke, chapters 10–15, in sermon guidelines published 1985–2013 in two periodicals aimed mainly at Church of Sweden clergy. The main problems can be expressed by the words “what”, “how” and “why”: What is received – and what is not received? How is that which is received understood? Why is the reception (and non-reception) of the Bible as it is? The introductory chapter deals with narrative parables generally and within the Gospel of Luke as well as with the genre of sermon guidelines. History of research of reception, parables and homiletics is sketched, and a method of analysis, based mainly upon narrative criticism but also inspired by metaphor theory, is developed. Parables are analysed in order to identify events, characters, settings, symbolism, and narrative patterns. Also the impact of the vehicle on the tenor is investigated, in order to find out how unexpected and expected traits of the parable affects the understanding of the implied reader, on whom the parables are considered to have illustrating as well as thought-provoking effect. Parable reception starts from narrative parables and results in sermon guidelines. Thus parables (analysed as above) as well as some 200 sermon guidelines are analysed in chapters 2–8, in order to find out the “what”, “how”, and “why” of reception. Sermon guidelines do actualise ancient texts into new circumstances and thus actually express reception. The concluding chapter also discerns further trends and tendencies within the diverse picture emerging. The actual bases of guidelines mostly are neither the texts of the Lectionaries at issue nor the Greek text but remembered versions of the authors. Maxims and summaries within the parables often are prioritised in the guidelines. Parables traditionally allegorised – but only those – mostly keep being read allegorically, focussing the parable characters. In the study it is concluded that the parable events rather are to be prioritised if a present-day understanding corresponding to the effects upon the implied reader is to be accomplished.
