Sammanfattning: In this thesis the spirituality in the early Swedish Pentecostal Movement is studied. The main material is the Movement's weekly magazine Evangelii Härold (EH). The period is 1913?1921. Spirituality is defined here as the lived religious life. It is studied by identifying what may be called its identity-carrying elements, analysing the interplay between these elements, and situating this identity-carrying entirety in its historical and social context. The identity-carrying elements are sorted into three categories: doctrines, practices and affections. After the elements have been identified and analysed category by category, the interplay between them is studied. The objective here is to delineate certain comprehensive traits of the Pentecostal Movement's spirituality. Finally, this identity-carrying entirety is further studied in the light of its historical and social context. Six areas of doctrine have been identified as identity-carrying elements: salvation, the church/assembly, the Holy Spirit, divine healing, the Second Coming of Christ, and the Bible. Five practices were identity-carrying: prayer, common worship, holiness, mission, and social work. And four affections were particularly identity-carrying: the quest for unity, the desire for God, fervour, and the quest for fullness. The analysis of the interplay indicates that five comprehensive features in the spirituality of the Pentecostal Movement were manifest. The spirituality was: Christ-centred, restorative, experiential, pragmatic, and characterized by a sense of uniqueness. The thesis shows, finally, that several different factors were important in the origin and development of the Pentecostal Movement. These include: the pietistic Christ-centred religious life, the revival movement's Biblicism and propagation of the Bible, the Anglo-American influences from the Keswick and Holiness Movements, and the social and ecclesiastical situation in Sweden at the beginning of the twentieth century.
