Measurement of azimuthal asymmetries in the hadronic final-state of deep inelastic scattering at HERA

Sammanfattning: Azimuthal asymmetries of the hadronic final state in deep inelastic scattering at HERA provide the opportunity to study the helicity of the interacting particles. We present a theoretical overview of the origin of these effects up to leading order in the strong coupling constant, $alpha_s$. A review of previous measurements is given and the results are discussed. The effects of the intrinsic transverse momentum of the partons inside the proton is investigated and implemented into a Monte Carlo program. We develop an analysis method insensitive to the intrinsic transverse momentum, including an unfolding algorithm to correct the data for detector effects. The result of the measurement is consistent with the expected signal in LO and NLO QCD from the CTEQ-4m parameterization of the structure function in the kinematic region investigated.
