Local or central snow deposits?

Detta är en avhandling från Luleå : Luleå tekniska universitet

Sammanfattning: Snow handling includes activities such as removing, transporting and dumping the snow, as well as controlling the slipperiness. It is a complex issue that has been widely discussed in the media during the past years. The discussions have been focused mainly on snow deposits and the effect created by de icers. For example, such effects discussed in Dagens Nyheter 16 January 2002 "Polluted snow is a threat to the fishing" and in Sundsvalls tidning, 29 January 2002, "Lack of snow deposits in Sundsvall" In Sweden, the municipal organizations (local technical offices) are responsible for snow-handling practices. These practices achieve their objective of creating road safety and uninterrupted traffic flow, but cause inconveniences such as noise and exhausts fumes during the ploughing and transporting of the snow and, in addition, put great strain on the municipalities' budget. Snow from urban areas is dumped mainly on land, or directly into a watercourse. Central snow deposits, which are usually located outside the central areas, receive snow mainly from the central parts of a city. Local snow deposits, which are usually located within the central parts of a city or in a housing area, receive snow from nearby areas.
