Detta är en avhandling från Linköping : Linköpings universitet

Sammanfattning: This thesis is a longitudinal study of a small residential quarter where tenants with learning disabilities have been physically integrated. The study extends over the first eight years of activity, during which time a social life develops. The theoretical part of the study takes its point of departure in theborderland between studies of community care and local community studies. Within the area of health and medical care different forms of institutional care have been replaced by a supported living in group homes or living on ones own. The vision of "the good living" has connections to sociological research of local communities and its ability to offer an arena where people can meet. The conclusion from this case-study is that the process of integratingpeople with learning disabilities is supported by the presence of threefactors: the physical enviromnent, the leisure-time activities and the interest and engagement of the tenants. In the final chapter some experiences from the case-study are discussed, for example the way in which tenants with learning disabilities choose toaccept or reject social integration in the quarter.
