La vie de sainte Bathilde: quatre versions en prose des XIIIe et XVe siècles, publiées avec introduction, notes et glossaire

Detta är en avhandling från Lund University Press

Sammanfattning: This edition of The Life of Saint Bathilde consists of four different versions in prose. All the authors of the versions are anonymous. The first version is preserved in three manuscripts; this edition is based on Paris, Bibl. Nat. ms. fr. 23112, which was copied by a Picardian scribe in the thirteenth century. The edition of the second version, preserved in four manuscripts, is based on Paris, Bibl. Nat. ms. fr. 2453. This fifteenth century manuscript comes from central France. The third version is preserved in two manuscripts. This edition is based on Cambrai, Bibl. Mun. 811, which was copied in the fifteenth century in Picardy. The edition of the fourth version, preserved in four manuscripts, is based on Paris, Bibl. Nat. ms. fr. 242, which was copied in central France in 1402. In the introduction of the edition, there is an investigation of the relationship between the four versions of The Life of Saint Bathilde and their latin sources. In particular, there is an enquiry of whether the authors of the versions I and II inserted an apocryphal tale in the hagiography. The introduction also discusses the question of whether the version II is an imitation of the version I. In addition, the language of the four base manuscripts is examined. The text is followed by explanatory notes, a table of biblic quotations, a glossary and an index of proper names.
