  1. 1. Generation and Applications of Short-Pulse X-ray Radiation

    Författare :Michael Harbst; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; egenskaper termiska och mekaniska ; Kondenserade materiens egenskaper:struktur; crystallography; phase equilibria; Material science; Condensed matter:stucture; thermal and mechanical properties; time-resolved; X-ray diffraction; kristallografi; fasjämvikt; Material technology; Materiallära; materialteknik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis summarizes work using hard X-ray radiation on nanosecond and picosecond timescales. The focus is on the experimental part including detailed descriptions of setups for laser pumped - X-ray probe experiments. X-ray diffraction is sensitive to structural properties on the length scale of chemical bonds. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Simulations of ultrafast photon-matter interactions for molecular imaging with X-ray lasers

    Författare :Ibrahim Eliah Dawod; Nicusor Timneanu; Carl Caleman; Adrian P. Mancuso; Lars Schäfer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; X-ray free-electron laser; molecular dynamics; radiation damage; plasma simulations; density functional theory¸ coherent diffractive imaging; protein structure; X-ray crystallography; single particle imaging;

    Sammanfattning : Biological structure determination has had new avenues of investigation opened due to the introduction of X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs). These X-ray lasers provide an extreme amount of photons on ultrafast timescales used to probe matter, and in particular biomolecules. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Simulations of Biomolecular Fragmentation and Diffraction with Ultrafast X-ray Lasers

    Författare :Christofer Östlin; Carl Caleman; Nicusor Timneanu; Helmut Grubmüller; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; X-ray free-electron laser; X-ray imaging; Single particle imaging; Computer simulation; Radiation damage; Molecular dynamics; Diffraction theory; Coulomb explosion; Sample heterogeneity; Diffractive noise; XFEL; SPI; Physics with specialization in Biophysics; Fysik med inriktning mot biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Studies of biomolecules have recently seen substantial developments. New X-ray lasers allow for high-resolution imaging of protein crystals too small for conventional X-ray crystallography. Even structures of single particles have been determined at lower resolutions with these new sources. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Structural studies of ba3-type cytochrome c oxidase using serial crystallography and X-ray absorption spectroscopy

    Författare :Doris Zoric; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ba3-type cytochrome c oxidase; structural biology; X-rays; serial X-ray crystallography; X-ray absorption spectroscopy; enzyme reaction dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : Cytochrome c oxidase (CcO) catalyses the reduction of molecular oxygen to water while the energy released in this process is used transport protons “up-hill” across an energy transducing biological membrane, creating a proton-motive force for ATP synthesis. Given its key role in energy transduction in organisms, proton pumping has been extensively studied across species. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Packing effects in palladium(II) and platinum(II) compounds, X-ray crystallography

    Författare :Maria Johansson; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; Platinum II ; Palladium II ; Half-normal probability plots; X-ray crystallography; Packing effects; Oorganisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on i) the effect of packing on the molecular geometry ii) packing arrangements of neutral Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes iii) the trans influence in Pt(II) complexes iv) the differences in bonding in corresponding Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes and v) the geometry of Pd(II) complexes with potential catalytic properties. Detailed three-dimensional structural information at the atomic level can be obtained from X-ray crystallography. LÄS MER
