  1. 16. Material Solutions for Mitigating High Temperature Corrosion in Biomass- and Waste-fired Boilers - Utilizing Novel FeCrAl Alloys and HVAF-sprayed Ni-based Coatings

    Författare :Johan Eklund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Waste; HVAF; High temperature corrosion; Biomass; FeCrAl alloys; Ni-based coatings; Silicon;

    Sammanfattning : Combustion of biomass and waste for heat and electricity production is a promising alternative to fossil fuels and is thereby an important step towards a more sustainable future. However, due to substantial amounts of alkali- and chlorine-containing species as well as moisture in biomass and waste, the combustion of these results in a highly corrosive environment which accelerates the degradation of steel components in the boiler, drastically increasing the maintenance costs. 2. 17. High Temperature Corrosion of FeCrAl Alloys in Biomass- and Waste-fired Boilers - The Influence of Alloying Elements in Prediction and Mitigation of Corrosion in Harsh Environments

    Författare :Johan Eklund; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Overlay Welding; Waste; High Temperature Corrosion; Silicon; FeCrAl alloys; Breakaway Oxidation; Biomass; HVAF; Coatings;

    Sammanfattning : Combustion of biomass and waste for heat and power production is an alternative to fossil fuels and can be an important step towards a more sustainable future. The electrical efficiency of the fuel-to-energy conversion process is largely dependent on the steam parameters (temperature and pressure) of the combined heat and power (CHP) plants. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Investigations of Chlorine-Induced High Temperature Corrosion of Steels

    Författare :Nicklas Folkeson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sulphur; alkali; chlorine; field exposures; HCl-induced corrosion; high temperature corrosion; deposits.; chloride-induced corrosion; waste; 310S; HCl;

    Sammanfattning : The high corrosivity of the fireside environment in waste and biomass fired boilers is commonly attributed to the presence of chlorine-containing compounds. Chlorine-induced high temperature corrosion is not well understood, however. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Reducing Alkali Chloride-Induced High Temperature Corrosion by Sulphur Containing Additives – A Combined Laboratory and Field Study

    Författare :Sofia Karlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sulphur; Stainless Steels; Additives; Biomass; Waste; High Temperature Corrosion; Alkali Chlorides; Co-combustion;

    Sammanfattning : In order to achieve a more sustainable society renewable fuels such as biomass and waste are attractive alternatives to fossil fuels for power production. However, fireside corrosion is a serious concern in boilers combusting biomass or waste. The high corrosion rates are often linked to large amounts of alkali chlorides in the flue gas. LÄS MER

  5. 20. High temperature corrosion in biomass-fired energy applications : Alloying effects and test environment comparisons

    Författare :Ragna Elger; Rachel Pettersson; Inger Odnevall Wallinder; Rikard Norling; Gordon Tatlock; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High temperature corrosion; biomass; waste; superheater corrosion; austenitic steel; biomass gasification; alumina-forming austenitic stainless steel; thermodynamic modelling; kinetic modelling; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : To reduce the greenhouse effect, the use of renewable fuel has to be increased. As renewable fuel has different characteristics compared to fossil fuel regarding content of trace metals, alkali, chlorine and sulphur, the corrosion characteristics in high temperature energy processes have to be evaluated.
