  1. 1. Predictive models for accidents on urban links - A focus on vulnerable road users

    Författare :Thomas Jonsson; Trafik och väg; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Road transport technology; Transportteknik; Transport technology; Teknik; Technological sciences; Stads- och glesbygdsplanering; Town and country planning; speed; links; urban; safety; vulnerable road users; modelling; prediction; crash; traffic safety; accident; Vägtransportteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Much of earlier work on predictive models for accidents has been focused on rural traffic or urban intersections. This work has aimed at identifying and investigating possible improvements to predictive models for accidents on urban links. A special focus has been on the accidents of vulnerable road users. 2. 2. Exploring Road Traffic Interactions Between Highly Automated Vehicles and Vulnerable Road Users

    Författare :Victor Fabricius; Pontus Wärnestål; Jonas Andersson; Barry Brown; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Automated driving system; Vulnerable road user; Traffic interaction; User Experience;

    Sammanfattning : Understandings of road traffic interactions are largely based on human-human interactions. However, the development of vehicles controlled by highly auto- mated driving systems (ADS) would introduce a radically novel type of road user. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Understanding Boundary Conditions for Brain Injury Prediction : Finite Element Analysis of Vulnerable Road Users

    Författare :Victor S. Alvarez; Svein Kleiven; Peter Halldin; Ciaran Simms; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Brain injuries; Vulnerable Road Users; windscreen impacts; Finite Element Analysis; pedestrian accidents; cycling accidents; pediatric neck; Applied Medical Technology; Tillämpad medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Vulnerable road users (VRUs) are overrepresented in the statistics on severe and deadly injuries in traffic accidents, most commonly involving the head. The finite element (FE) method presents the possibility to model complex interactions between the human body and vehicles in order to better understand the injury mechanisms. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Searching for causal effects of road traffic safety interventions : applications of the interrupted time series design

    Författare :Carl Bonander; Ragnar Andersson; Finn Nilson; Claes Tingvall; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Causal inference; Repeated measures; Methodology; Econometrics; Injury Epidemiology; Vulnerable Road Users; Time series analysis; Risk- och Miljöstudier; Risk and Environmental Studies;

    Sammanfattning : Traffic-related injuries represent a global public health problem, and contribute largely to mortality and years lived with disability worldwide. Over the course of the last decades, improvements to road traffic safety and injury surveillance systems have resulted in a shift in focus from the prevention of motor vehicle accidents to the control of injury events involving vulnerable road users (VRUs), such as cyclists and moped riders. 5. 5. Drivers overtaking cyclists and pedestrians: Modeling road-user behavior for traffic safety

    Författare :Alexander Rasch; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; driver behavior; behavioral models; perceived safety; Overtaking; advanced driving assistance systems; traffic safety; vulnerable road users;

    Sammanfattning : In a world aiming to shift to more sustainable modes of transportation, vulnerable road users (VRUs) like cyclists and pedestrians are still confronted with significant barriers to safety, particularly on rural roads where overtaking maneuvers represent a frequent and dangerous interaction with motorized traffic. If drivers misjudge their kinematics, even near-crashes without physical contact can harm the perceived safety of the VRU, which may decrease the willingness to continue cycling or walking on these roads.
