1. Free Volume Determination in Polymers and Polymer Blends
Sammanfattning : The free volume of a polymer, which corresponds to the unoccupied regions accessible to segmental motions, is an important parameter for understanding and predicting many of its characteristic properties. The concept of free volume is the basis for understanding the molecular mobility in polymers. LÄS MER
2. On Multistage Analysis of Transonic Compressors: From Axisymmetric Throughflow Time-Marching to Unsteady Three-Dimensional Methods
Sammanfattning : A throughflow time-marching finite-volume solver, capable of computing viscous transonic multistage compressor flows with embedded shocks, is presented. The behavior of the blade model, based on the blade mean surface flow tangency condition, was investigated for transonic flows. LÄS MER
3. Steam Drying of Porous Media
Sammanfattning : The present study concerns heat and mass transfer in porous media dried by superheated steam. Specifically, the steam drying process of a packed bed of porous particles was studied in order to obtain design data for a band drier. LÄS MER
4. Properties of Volume Bragg Gratings and Nonlinear Crystals for Laser Engineering
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on two topics: thermal limitations of volume Bragg gratings (VBGs) employed as laser-cavity mirrors and formation of color centers in KTiOPO4 and its isomorphs. To explore the mechanisms of the thermal limitations of VBGs in high power lasers, I designed and constructed a diode-pumped, solid‑state laser with a VBG as cavity mirror that had a significantly higher absorption than what is typical. 5. Cardiac function and long-term volume load : Physiological investigations in endurance athletes and in patients operated on for aortic regurgitation
Sammanfattning : Background and aims. The heart is a remarkably adaptable organ, continuously changing its output to match metabolic demands and haemodynamic load. But also in long-term settings, such as in chronic or repeated volume load, there are changes in cardiac dimensions and mass termed cardiac hypertrophy. LÄS MER
