  1. 1. Exploring the Molecular Dynamics of Proteins and Viruses

    Författare :Daniel Larsson; David van der Spoel; Modesto Orozco; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; molecular dynamics; virus dynamics; capsid dissolution; satellite tobacco necrosis virus; satellite tobacco mosaic virus; virus genome structure; gas phase protein structure; water layer; micelle embedded protein; membrane protein; Chemistry with specialization in Biophysics; Kemi med inriktning mot biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Knowledge about structure and dynamics of the important biological macromolecules — proteins, nucleic acids, lipids and sugars — helps to understand their function. Atomic-resolution structures of macromolecules are routinely captured with X-ray crystallography and other techniques. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Concentrated DNA-amphiphiles Structure, Hydration, and Dynamics

    Författare :Cecilia Leal; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; amphiphiles; DNA; Physical chemistry; diffusion NMR; solid-state NMR; electrostatics; dynamics; local order; Fysikalisk kemi; hydration;

    Sammanfattning : The structure, hydration, and dynamics of concentrated DNA-amphiphile complexes were investigated by small-angle X-ray diffraction, sorption calorimetry, and nuclear magnetic resonance. A concentrated, electroneutral, DNA-amphiphile complex can be formed by mixing charge-stoichiometric solutions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Viral Loop Dynamics in Temperate and Polar Freshwaters

    Författare :Christin Säwström; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; akvatisk ekologi; aquatic ecology; marine biology; Hydrobiology; temperate; polar; freshwaters; nutrient limitation; bacterial mortality; lysogeny; dissolved organic carbon; humic; Arctic; Antarctic; Bacteria; Virus; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : All cellular organisms in aquatic environments are susceptible to virus attack. Viruses are the smallest but most abundant biological entities in freshwaters. This thesis describes interactions between viruses and bacteria in temperate and polar freshwaters with particular emphasis on Arctic and Antarctic aquatic systems. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Acute febrile illness in preschool children in Zanzibar - Infectious aetiologies, diagnosis and treatment

    Författare :Kristina Elfving; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Children; Infections; Low-income country; Tanzania; malaria; pneumonia; antibiotics; fever; diagnosis; polymerase chain reaction; preschool; influenza virus; Respiratory syncytial virus; diarrhoea; norovirus; dengue virus;

    Sammanfattning : Background: A majority of the three million children in Africa that do not survive their fifth birthday die from infections that often start as a seemingly uncomplicated febrile illness. Primary health care workers frequently encounter febrile children with a negative malaria rapid diagnostic test (mRDT), in particular in places like Zanzibar with a considerable decline in malaria prevalence. 5. 5. Viruses on the wing : evolution and dynamics of influenza A virus in the Mallard reservoir

    Författare :Michelle Wille; Jonas Waldenström; Timm Harder; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Co-infections; Ecology; Epidemiology; Evolution; Host-Parasite Interactions; Immunity; Influenza A Virus; Mallard; Phylogeny; Virology; Waterfowl; Wild Birds; Wildlife Disease; Zoonotisk ekologi; Zoonotic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the evolution of avian influenza A viruses (IAV), as well as host-pathogen interactions between these viruses and their main reservoir host, the Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). IAV is a genetically diverse, multi-host virus and wild birds, particularly dabbling ducks, are the natural reservoir. LÄS MER
