1. Ventilation/Perfusion Matching and its Effect on Volatile Pharmacokinetics
Sammanfattning : The mismatching of alveolar ventilation and perfusion (VA/Q) is the major determinant of impaired gas exchange. The gold standard for analyzing VA/Q distribution is the multiple inert gas elimination technique (MIGET), conventionally based on gas chromatography (GC), and, although simple in principle, a technically demanding procedure limiting its use. 2. The Effect of CO2-Pneumoperitoneum on Ventilation Perfusion Distribution of the Lung
Sammanfattning : Laparoscopic operations are a common and popular way for abdominal procedures. They are usually performed by insufflation of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the abdominal cavity. However, insufflation of CO2 may interfere with cardiac and circulatory as well as respiratory functions. The CO2-pneumoperitoneum (PP) may cause hypercarbia and acidosis. LÄS MER
3. Pulmonary ventilation and perfusion assessed by electrical impedance tomography - Experimental studies in pigs
Sammanfattning : Pulmonary ventilation and perfusion and ventilation/perfusion (V/Q) matching determine gas exchange in every lung unit in the healthy state and in the pathologically altered lung. Mismatch of V and Q lead to hypoxaemia and hypercapnia and monitoring of V/Q relations are thus important in critical illness. LÄS MER
4. Haemodynamic and ventilatory effects of laparoscopic surgery
Sammanfattning : Background: It has been shown repeatedly that the establishment of pneumoperitoneum (PP) is associated with increased cardiac filling pressures, as well as increased blood pressure and systemic vascular resistance. Patients without heart or lung disease can compensate for these effects of PP, but cardiopulmonary compromised patients may develop cardiac failure during PP. LÄS MER
5. Ventilatory-perfusion relationships and respiratory drive in chronic obstructive pulmanory disease : with special reference to hypoxaemia, sleep quality and treatment with inhaled corticisteroid
Sammanfattning : By measuring retention in blood and excretion in exhaled air of six infused inert gases using multiple inert gas technique (MIGET), it is possible to obtain detailed assessment of the ventilation-perfusion (VA/Q) relationships in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Stable, non-bronchitic COPD patients show a substantial perfusion of hyper-ventilated lung regions. LÄS MER
