  1. 1. Iatrogenic Vascular Injuries

    Författare :Håkan Rudström; Martin Björck; David Bergqvist; Carl Magnus Wahlgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vascular injuries; vascular surgery; vascular trauma; injury; medical error; patient safety; postoperative death; postoperative mortality; patient insurance; varicose veins; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Sammanfattning : Iatrogenic vascular injuries (IVIs) and injuries associated with vascular surgery can cause severe morbidity and death. The aims of this thesis were to study those injuries in the Swedish vascular registry (Swedvasc), the Swedish medical injury insurance where insurance claims are registered, the Population and Cause of death registries, and in patient records, in order to explore preventive strategies. 2. 2. Predictors of Dementia : Insulin, Fatty Acids and Vascular Risk Factors

    Författare :Elina Rönnemaa; Lena Kilander; Lars Lannfelt; Björn Zethelius; Laura Fratiglioni; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dementia; Alzheimer’s disease; vascular dementia; insulin secretion; diabetes; fatty acids; epidemiology; vascular risk factors; Geriatrics; Geriatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Identification of modifiable risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is crucial in order to diminish suffering from this devastating disease. The aim of this thesis was to investigate if different aspects of glucose metabolism, insulin, fatty-acid composition or other vascular risk factors predict the future development of AD and dementia. 3. 3. Comorbidity and vascular risk factors  associated with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus : the INPH-CRasH Study

    Författare :Hanna Israelsson Larsen; Jan Malm; Anders Eklund; Norman Relkin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hydrocephalus; normal pressure; vascular disease; vascular risk factors; elderly; depression; case control study; epidemiology; dementia; vascular dementia; small vessel disease; cerebrovascular disease; transient ischemic attack; Neurology; neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) is a dementia treatable by insertion of a cerebrospinal fluid shunt. It has been suggested that INPH has similar pathophysiological mechanisms as cerebrovascular disease, but the vascular risk factor (VRF) profile of INPH patients has not been assessed using a modern epidemiological approach. 4. 4. Angiogenic growth factors : mechanism of action and function in vascular development

    Författare :Charlotte Rolny; Andrius Kazlauskas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Molecular medicine; PDGF-BB; VEGF; angiogenesis; hypoxia; migration; heparin; Molekylärmedicin; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; Molecular Medicine; molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ;

    Sammanfattning : The mature vascular system is composed of a network of blood vessels organized into arteries, capillaries, and veins. The vessels are composed of endothelial cells surrounded by smooth muscle cells and embedded in a specialized basement membrane. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Vacuum-assisted closure in cardiac surgery - clinical outcome and vascular effects

    Författare :Johan Sjögren; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Infektioner; Infections; endothelium; vascular; central hemodynamics; risk factors; long-term survival; mortality; wound closure; cardiac surgery; vacuum-assisted closure; poststernotomy mediastinitis; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this research was to clinically and experimentally evaluate the use of vacuum-assisted closure in poststernotomy mediastinitis after cardiac surgery. Vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) is a new wound-healing therapy based on the application of a local negative pressure to the wound. LÄS MER
