1. Luminescence Spectroscopy For Biomedical Applications
Sammanfattning : This work presents optical methods utilizing visible light for characterization of biological tissue during diagnostics and treatment processes. The main aim has been to improve the therapeutic outcome of treatment modalities in in vivo studies. LÄS MER
2. Advancing Upconversion Emissions for Biomedical Imaging
Sammanfattning : During the past decade, upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) doped with rare earth ions have become an important class of fluorescence contrast agents for molecular imaging, due to their unique properties. Their property of anti-Stokes luminescence, with both the excitation and emission wavelengths close to the optimal for biomedical imaging, has been extensively explored in various biomedical applications. 3. Optical spectroscopy and fluorescence imaging for cancer diagnostics
Sammanfattning : This work presents optical methods for diagnosing cancer. A complementary method for diagnosing eye cancer was investigated using a technique developed within this work named transscleral optical spectroscopy (TOS). LÄS MER
4. Towards Undistorted Fluorescence for Tissue Diagnostics and Therapy Monitoring
Sammanfattning : Fluorescence techniques for applications in tissue diagnostics and therapy monitoring were investigated and developed in the work presented in this thesis. The aim was to develop fluorescence diagnostics for the detection of malignant tumors and better delimitation of the tumor margins, using the enhanced contrast in fluorescence between tumor and surrounding healthy tissue. 5. Diffuse Optical Spectroscopy and Imaging of Turbid Media
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with optical spectroscopy and imaging of complex and strongly scattering turbid media. Focus is mainly placed on three topics, being i) diffuse optical spectroscopy of choroidal tumors, ii) gas spectroscopy in scattering materials using the GASMAS (gas in scattering media absorption spectroscopy) technique, and iii) luminescence diffuse optical imaging and tomography of tissues.
