  1. 1. Head and Neck Cancer : Factors Affecting Tumour Growth

    Författare :Kaarina Sundelin; Elisabeth Paulette-Hultcrantz; Karin Öllinger; Karin Roberg; Hans Gustafsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Head and neck cancer; Chemoradiotherapy; Tumour; Malignant salivary; Metallothionein; Neo-angiogenesis; Metastases; Cytokine tumour necrosis factor-alpha; hepatocyte growth factor; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : Head and neck cancer is the fifth most common cancer worldwide with an estimated annual global incidence of over 500 000 cases. These malignant tumours develop in the mucosal linings of the upper respiratory tract or in the salivary glands. The most common sites are in the oral cavity and larynx. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Disease activity in rheumatoid arthritis : Studies in interleukin-6, tumour necrosis factor alpha, monocyte activity, acute phase markers, glucocorticoids, and disability

    Författare :Nils Gunnar Arvidson; Anders Larsson; Arvi Larsen; Øystein Førre; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; acute phase markers; circadian rhythm; disability; disease activity; glucocorticoids; monocyte activation; rheumatoid arthritis; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : In the present studies, aspects of some disease activity measures in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have been investigated, including the effect of glucocorticoids on this activity. In RA, serum interleukin(IL)-6 levels were elevated and were shown to have a circadian rhythm, with peak levels in the morning, declining towards low or normal levels in the afternoon and evening. 3. 3. Mixed Effects Modelling and Optimal Design of TNFα Response in LPS Challenge Studies - Methods and Applications in Drug Discovery

    Författare :Julia Larsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pharmacodynamics; pharmacokinetics; non-linear mixed effects modelling; lipopolysaccharides; tumour necrosis factor alpha; optimal design;

    Sammanfattning : ''Endotoxin and mycoplasma are Nature’s darkest secrets. If they are ever solved, Hell itself will open.'' - Lewis Thomas* Endotoxin, or lipopolysaccharides (LPS), are heterogeneous components from the cell wall of Gram-Negative bacteria and a common challenger in the field of drug discovery. 4. 4. Microglial Glutamate Transporters - Regulation of Expression and Possible Physiological Functions

    Författare :Mikael Persson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :anaphylatoxin; central nervous system; herpes simplex virus; glutamate transport; glutathione; GLT-1; lipopolysaccharide; microglia; neuroinflammation; oxidative stress; protection; tumour necrosis factor-alpha;

    Sammanfattning : Microglia are considered as the immunocompetent cells of the central nervous system (CNS). Being the first line of defence, they have prominent roles in monitoring the homeostasis and the extracellular milieu and can rapidly and specifically react to any disturbances such as brain trauma, ischemia, neurodegenerative diseases, or infections. 5. 5. Prevention of type 1 diabetes mellitus in experimental studies

    Författare :Maria Holstad; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Cytokines; inducible nitric oxide synthase; nitric oxide; NOD mice; pancreatic islets; prolactin; syngeneic islet transplantation; tumour necrosis factor alpha; type 1 diabetes mellitus; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the study was to examine the immune response and different immunoprotective strategies in experimental type 1 diabetes mellitus. The autoimmune destruction of the insulin-producing pancreatic β-cells that leads to type 1 diabetes is complex and incompletely understood. LÄS MER
