  2. 2. Nitric oxide synthase in female reproductive and urinary organs: Hormonal regulation and functional significance

    Författare :Jassim Al-Hijji; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gynaecology; Obstetrics; estrogen; trophoblast; placenta; vagina; Nitric oxide; uterus; ovarian steroids; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity was studied in cytosolic and particulate fractions in reproductive organs from rabbit (uterus and vagina) and rat (uterus, vagina and cervix). NOS was found predominantly in cytosolic fractions in all tissues and the activity of NOS in both fractions was highly Ca2+ dependent. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Exosomes and the NKG2D receptor-ligand system in pregnancy and cancer : using stress for survival

    Författare :Malin Hedlund; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Susanne Gabrielsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Exsosomes; NKG2D; MICA; MICB; ULBP; human placenta; trophoblast; syncytiotrophoblast; thermal stress; oxidative stress; leukemia; lymphoma; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Although not obvious at first sight, several parallels can be drawn between pregnancy andcancer. Many proliferative, invasive and immune tolerance mechanisms that supportnormal pregnancy are also exploited by malignancies to establish a nutrient supply andevade or edit the immune response of the host. 5. 5. Developmental insights and biomedical potential of human embryonic stem cells : modelling trophoblast differentiation and establishing novel cell therapies for age-related macular degeneration

    Författare :Álvaro Plaza Reyes; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding the molecular pathways responsible for lineage segregation in the preimplantation human embryo is critical in order to fully elucidate the mechanisms involved in pluripotency and differentiation of embryonic stem cells. A significant increase in our comprehension of such processes will lead to an improvement in the quality and efficiency of these cells for applications requiring stem cell maintenance and differentiation, such as regenerative medicine.
