21. Exploring Amphiphilic PEGMA-Based Architectures as Nanoparticles for Drug Delivery
Sammanfattning : Within the last decades, the stated potential of polymer constructs as drug delivery systems have challenged researchers to develop sophisticated polymers with tunable properties. The versatility of polymers makes them highly attractive to tailor nanoparticles (NPs) which fulfill the demands of effective drug delivery systems (DDS). LÄS MER
22. Degranulation in macrophages and other leukocytes: regulation by calcium, phosphoinositide 3-kinase, and protein kinase C
Sammanfattning : Macrophages mediate innate immunity through release of cytokines, eicosanoids, reactive oxygen species as well as through phagocytosis and secretion of lysosomal enzymes. Regulation of lysosomal secretion in macrophages differs in several respects from release of specialized granules in other leukocytes. LÄS MER
23. Neutrophil interactions with Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus
Sammanfattning : Streptococcus pyogenes and Staphylococcus aureus are Gram-positive bacteria that share many features, including clinical presentations and pathogenic mechanisms, and yet, they still have unique properties. They both cause diseases ranging from uncomplicated infections to severe invasive diseases, such as sepsis and toxic shock syndrome, as well as severe tissue infections including necrotizing fasciitis and necrotizing pneumonia. 24. Acute and chronic peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis: neurogenic inflammation and citrate treatment
Sammanfattning : The prevalent problems associated with peritoneal dialysis (PD) are ultrafiltration failure and peritonitis. During PD the patient is sustained on a state of intraperitoneal inflammation, which over time impairs structure, and function of the peritoneal membrane, leading to loss of ultrafiltration efficacy. 25. Stainless Steel in Biological Environments – Relation between Material Characteristics, Surface Chemistry and Toxicity
Sammanfattning : Triggered by the regulatory need of the industry to demonstrate safe use of their alloy products from an environmental and health perspective, and by the significant lack of metal release data and its correlation to material and surface characteristics for iron- and chromium-based alloys, a highly interdisciplinary in-depth research effort was undertaken to assess the relation between material/surface characteristics and toxicity with main emphasis on stainless steel alloys. This thesis focuses predominantly on studies made on AISI 316L both as massive sheet and as powder particles, but includes also results for other stainless steel grades and reference metals and metal oxides.
