1. Forest-Fuel Systems : Comparative Analyses in a Life Cycle Perspective
Sammanfattning : Forest fuels can be recovered, stored and handled in several ways and these different ways have different implications for CO2 emissions. In this thesis, comparative analyses were made on different forest-fuel systems. The analyses focused on the recovery and transport systems. LÄS MER
2. Energy transition in transportation : Applying TIMES-based energy system optimisation models to sub-national levels
Sammanfattning : Transportation is embedded in the fabric of society and a key enabler of socio-economic development, but it is also a major source of carbon dioxide (CO2) and local air pollution (AP). Cities collectively account for around three quarters of total energy-related CO2 emissions, and the negative health impacts from local APs are most felt in dense urban environments. LÄS MER
3. Towards sustainable urban transportation : Test, demonstration and development of fuel cell and hybrid-electric buses
Sammanfattning : Several aspects make today’s transport system non-sustainable: • Production, transport and combustion of fossil fuels lead to global and local environmental problems. • Oil dependency in the transport sector may lead to economical and political instability. LÄS MER
4. On direct hydrogen fuel cell vehicles : modelling and demonstration
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, direct hydrogen Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell systems in vehicles are investigated through modelling, field tests and public acceptance surveys. A computer model of a 50 kW PEM fuel cell system was developed. The fuel cell system efficiency is approximately 50% between 10 and 45% of the rated power. LÄS MER
5. ELM: Environmental Assessment of Fuel Supply Systems for Vehicle Fleets
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on the idea of applying a logistics approach to fuel supply systems. The complete supply chain from energy raw material to end use in the vehicle is analysed while keeping track of energy conversion efficiency, exergy consumption and emissions to air. LÄS MER
