1. Thermal modelling and evaluation of borehole heat transfer
Sammanfattning : The use of ground source heat pump systems to provide heating and cooling inbuildings has increased greatly in the last decade or so. These systems have a highpotential for energy efficiency, which has environmental and economicadvantages. LÄS MER
2. Protein dynamics: aggregation and mechanical unfolding
Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis is protein dynamics. Papers I--IV and VI study either of two different processes: mechanical unfolding and aggregation. Paper V presents a computationally efficient all-atom model for proteins, variants of which are used to perform Monte Carlo simulations in the other papers. LÄS MER
3. Wheat Gluten -Based Materials and Composites: Extrusion, Casting and Antimicrobial Properties
Sammanfattning : The use of bio-based polymers as packaging materials has gained much attention due to increasing environmental concerns regarding non-biodegradable petroleum-derived plastics. Wheat gluten (WG) is a valuable renewable resource for the production of bio-based materials because of its low price, biodegradability, good film-forming properties and good gas barrier properties under dry conditions. 4. Proton-Conducting Polymers and Membranes for Fuel Cells-Preparation and Properties
Sammanfattning : The development of new materials for use in fuel cells is of importance for the probable replacement of the combustion engine by this technology in public vehicles in the future. The proton-conducting polymer electrolyte membrane is one of the main components in the fuel cell. LÄS MER
5. Structural changes during cellulose composite processing
Sammanfattning : Two approaches for creating a new all-cellulose composite material have been studied: the biosynthesis of compartmentalised bacterial cellulose fibril aggregates and the compression moulding of commercial chemical wood pulps processed with only water. The objective was to study the structural changes during processing and the complexity of relating the mechanical properties of the final biocomposites to the nanoscale structure was highlighted.
