1. Polyphenols in Swedish berries and pulses : Characterization and in vivo effects of fractions from lingonberries and brown beans in an Apoe-/- mouse model
Sammanfattning : Consumption of berries and pulses can protect against atherosclerosis and other metabolic diseases, by modulating plasma lipid profile, gut microbiota, and microbiota-dependent metabolites. These nutritional benefits are often attributed to high content of polyphenols (flavonoids and phenolic acids) and dietary fiber. LÄS MER

3. Pulmonary Injury Following Intestinal Ischemia and Reperfusion in Rats
Sammanfattning : Intestinal ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) is a potentially life-threatening condition, sometimes leading to a systemic inflammatory response and the potential development of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. The overall aim of the thesis was to study the effects of intestinal I/R on pulmonary function with special emphasis on removal of excess alveolar fluid, pulmonary endothelial barrier permeability, leukocyte accumulation and function, and possible therapeutic strategies to prevent the development of pulmonary injury following intestinal I/R. 4. Gastrointestinal motility and the role of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the relation between gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and gastrointestinal symptoms and dysmotility. In primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS), a patient group with high levels of GnRH antibodies, associations between objective signs and symptoms of autonomic dysfunction (AD), impaired gastric emptying (IGE), and inflammatory and serological features were studied. 5. Regulation and Function of the Human Leukotriene D4 Receptor CysLT1 in Epithelial Cells and Colon Cancer
Sammanfattning : The pro-inflammatory mediators leukotrienes have shown to be important players in the pathogenesis of diseases like asthma and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Patients suffering from IBD have been found to have an increased risk of developing colon cancer. LÄS MER
