  1. 1. Disease surveillance systems

    Författare :Baki Cakici; Magnus Boman; Stefan Johansson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; disease surveillance; syndromic surveillance; outbreak detection; health informatics; computer science; Health and medical services in society; Hälso- och sjukvård i samhället; Epidemiology; Epidemiologi; Computer and systems science; Data- och systemvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Recent advances in information and communication technologies have made the development and operation of complex disease surveillance systems technically feasible, and many systems have been proposed to interpret diverse data sources for health-related signals. Implementing these systems for daily use and efficiently interpreting their output, however, remains a technical challenge. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Datafication in Public Health Surveillance : Making Authoritative Accounts

    Författare :Martin Stojanov; Mats Edenius; Claes Thorén; Eivor Oborn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Datafication; public health; authority; sociomateriality; care; valuation; design ethnography; influenza surveillance; Information Systems; Informationssystem;

    Sammanfattning : The data traces we increasingly leave behind through interactions with information technology are being integrated into public health practice for continuous real-time monitoring and decision-making in a process of datafication. While previous research suggests there are challenges in producing and moving representations, datafication relies on reusing data primarily intended for a different purpose. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Bayesian inference for detection problems in biology

    Författare :Ronny Hedell; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PCR; Bayesian inference; Forensic DNA analysis; Syndromic surveillance; Bacillus anthracis; Markov chain Monte Carlo; Allele dropout; Bacillus anthracis;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is about different kinds of detection problems in biology: detection of DNA sequences in crime scene samples, detection of harmful bacteria in feed and food stuff and detection of epidemical diseases in animal populations. In each case, biological data is produced or collected in order to determine which DNA sequences, bacteria types or diseases are present, if any. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Use of data mining and artificial intelligence to derive public health evidence from large datasets

    Författare :Hugo Fitipaldi; Genetisk och molekylär epidemiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; artificial Intelligence; data mining; genome-wide association studies; covid-19;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the use of data mining and AI-tailored frameworks for extracting public health evidence from large health datasets. The research presented in this thesis demonstrates the potential of these tools for automating and simplifying the data mining process, and for providing valuable insights into various public health issues. Sammanfattning : A large number of emerging infectious diseases (including influenza epidemics) has been identified during the last century. The emergence and re-emergence of infectious diseases have a negative impact on global health. Influenza epidemics alone cause between 3 and 5 million cases of severe illness annually, and between 250,000 and 500,000 deaths. LÄS MER
