1. Sutures bridging nerve defects
Sammanfattning : A new and simple method for the repair of nerve defects, in which sutures alone are used to guide regeneration between the nerve endings, was developed. Bilateral seven to 17 mm rat sciatic nerve defects were bridged by continuous longitudinal sutures with or without different modifications, by conventional autologous nerve grafts or direct repair under tension as controls. 2. Towards surgical use of matrix metalloproteinase biology
Sammanfattning : Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), such as collagenases, are a family of enzymes capable of degrading most constituents of the extracellular matrix. MMPs are thought to be involved in the aetiopathogenesis of tendon rupture. Additionally, failure of healing has in some instances been associated with elevated levels of MMPs. LÄS MER
3. Overcoming the Barriers of Fine-Needle Aspiration
Sammanfattning : Cysts, closed sac-like structures filled with fluid or air, can form anywhere in the body. In the majority of cases, cysts are benign (not cancerous). However, these structures can also be precursors of cancer, pointing to the location where cancer can originate. LÄS MER
4. Evaluation of surgical methods for treatment of female stress urinary incontinence
Sammanfattning : Aims: Paper I & II: To compare the subjective and objective results of open Burch colposuspension and laparoscopic colposuspension using sutures or mesh and staples in randomised trials. Paper III: To assess the short and long term results of the Tension-free Vaginal Tape (TVT)-procedure in a large observational study and to identify factors predictive of successful outcome. LÄS MER
5. Central and peripheral adaptation after nerve repair with a synthetic biocompatible adhesive
Sammanfattning : The epineural repair technique is currently the accepted standard for peripheral nerve repair. However, due to the demanding nature of this method, it is not uncommon to delay or even omit action, especially in situations which are associated with extensive traumatic injuries. LÄS MER
