2. Bio-Nano Interactions : Synthesis, Functionalization and Characterization of Biomaterial Interfaces
Sammanfattning : Current strategies for designing biomaterials involve creating materials and interfaces that interact with biomolecules, cells and tissues. This thesis aims to investigate several bioactive surfaces, such as nanocrystalline diamond (NCD), hydroxyapatite (HA) and single crystalline titanium dioxide, in terms of material synthesis, surface functionalization and characterization. 3. Tailoring and Characterization of Polymer-linked Fibrillar Structures
Sammanfattning : The development of sustainable and renewable materials is paramount in today’s society. As the most abundant biopolymer on Earth, cellulose from cellulose-rich fibres is an excellent alternative for advanced and innovative material solutions. LÄS MER
4. Folded polypeptide scaffolds for biosensor and biochip applications : design, synthesis, functionalisation and characterisation
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the design, synthesis and evaluation of functional molecular units intended for use in biosensor and microarray applications. A flexible, synthetic helix-loop-helix polypeptide that dimerises to form four-helix bundles was used as a scaffold and was modified with affinity ligands and fluorescent probes to specifically bind a target biomolecule and report on this event in an integrated process. 5. CONTROLLED ASSEMBLY AND FUNCTIONALISATION OF CELLULOSE-BASED MATERIALS
Sammanfattning : The environmental effects caused by the use of fossil-based resources have intensified and driven society and research towards new materials and processes that utilise renewable resources. Within the development of new materials, wood has been identified as a raw-material from which high performing materials can be derived. LÄS MER
