Sammanfattning : In the context of multiple stressors such as land shortage and food insecurity, the thesis deals with gendered land and labour rights as a social aspect of food production in subsistence agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa. Using the Chiweshe communal area in Zimbabwe as an example, it identifies, investigates and draws conclusions on higher order social processes of gender, power and incremental institutional change in a local context. Sammanfattning : This anthropological study examines the complexity and importance of gender relations for livelihood activities and it looks at the way in which female- headed agricultural households in the Ethiopian highlands cope in an area renowned for livelihood vulnerability, drought and famine. Sammanfattning : During the second half of the first millennium AD, several large urban communities developed in the Puuc region of the northwest Yucatán Peninsula. Investigations of architecture and ceramics at Xuch provide a spatio-chronological framework demonstrating the rapid growth of an urban settlement culminating in the Terminal Classic, and its subsequent decline. 5. Ambiguous Hopes : An Ethnographic Study of Agricultural Modernisation in a Rwandan village
Sammanfattning : Since 2006, Rwanda has been implementing policies to modernize the agricultural sector, with the aim of moving from small-scale subsistence farming to modern, market-oriented farming. Under these policies, small-scale farmers have been compelled to abandon their traditional farming practices and adapt to monocropping of state-approved crops on consolidated land. LÄS MER
