  1. 1. The Lagrangian Stochastic Advective-Reactive Approach to Modeling Solute Transport in Hydrological Systems

    Författare :Archana Gupta; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :solute transport; groundwater transport; unsaturated zone; stream hydrology; stream networks; stochastic processes; mass transfer kinetics; preferential flow; temporal moments; catchment hydrology; Lagrangian transport model;

    Sammanfattning : The Lagrangian stochastic advective-reactive modelingapproach has been used for analyzing transport of bothnonreactive and reactive solutes in different hydrologicalsystems (structured soil, groundwater, mining waste rockdeposits and surface waters including single stream and networkof streams) and at different spatio-temporal scales (rangingfrom laboratory column-scale to catchment-scale). Further, afirst step has been taken to extending the Lagrangianstochastic advective-reactive modeling methodology to integratethe soil-groundwater-stream transport through a catchment. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Applications of ocean transport modelling

    Författare :Hanna Corell; Kristofer Döös; Björn Kjerfve; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ocean transport modelling; connectivity; particle-tracking; sediment transport; Forsmark; marine protected areas; MPA; stream functions; heat flux; wind forcing; Carcinus maenas; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : The advective motion of seawater governs the transport of almost everything, animate or inanimate, present in the ocean and those lacking the ability to outswim the currents have to follow the flow. This makes modelling of advective ocean transports a powerful tool in various fields of science where a displacement of something over time is studied. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The influence of multiscale hyporheic flow on solute transport : Implications for stream restoration enhancing nitrogen removal

    Författare :Ida Morén; Anders Wörman; Joakim Riml; Roy Haggerty; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hyporheic exchange flow; Hydrological modeling; Solute transport; Stream restoration; Nitrogen; Power spectral analysis; Hydraulic and Hydrologic Engineering; Hydraulik och teknisk hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Stream water that flows into and out of streambeds is called hyporheic exchange flow (HEF).It continuously interacts with groundwater and thereby affect the water quality of local streamreaches as well as downstream recipients by providing an environment where solutes andenergy can be retained and degraded. 4. 4. Solute transport in the integrated soil-groundwater system

    Författare :Eva Simic; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :solute transport; groundwater transport; integrated soil.groundwater system;

    Sammanfattning : A Lagrangian stochastic travel time approach has been usedfor investigating dominant process impacts on (non-reactive andreactive) solute transport in the integrated soil-groundwatersystem. A first step has also been taken to extending thisLagrangian stochastic travel time approach to integrate thesoil-groundwater-stream transport through a catchment. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Effect of Hyporheic Exchange on Conservative and Reactive Solute Transport in Streams : Model Assessments Based on Tracer Tests

    Författare :Karin Jonsson; Anders Wörman; Bernhard H. Schmid; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; conservative; hyporheic exchange; model; reactive; retention; solute; sorption kinetics; stream transport; temporal moments; tracer experiment; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Sedimentology; sedimentologi;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding of the processes affecting solute transport in flowing water is important for the possibility to predict the evolution with time of polluted stream systems. This thesis presents tracer experiment methodology and model developments for solute transport in streams, with special focus on retention processes and their effect on solute stream transport.
