1. Multimodal treatment of gastric cancer : assessment of tumor regression and the role of minimally invasive surgery
Sammanfattning : The generally poor prognosis of advanced gastric cancer (AGC) has led to the development of multimodal therapeutic protocols in which surgery is combined with systemic treatment, perioperative chemotherapy being the preferred approach in Europe. In this context, there still are several issues that need to be addressed. LÄS MER
2. Functional role of a constitutively active dioxin/Ah receptor in a transgenic mouse model
Sammanfattning : The dioxin/ Aryl hydrocarbon receptor is a ligand-activated transcription factor that mediates most (if not all) of the toxic effects of the group of highly potent environmental pollutants collectively called dioxins and PCBs, including the highly toxic compound 2,3,7,8tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). The toxic effects include immune suppression, endocrine disruption, impaired reproduction and carcinogenesis. LÄS MER
3. Studies on DNA adducts and carcinogenesis with 2-nitrofluorene as a model substance
Sammanfattning : A number of carcinogens or their electrophilic intermediates are able to bind covalently to DNA, forming DNA adducts. DNA adducts may cause gene mutations if they are misrepaired or remain unrepaired before DNA replication occurs. DNA adduct formation is believed to be the initial step of chemical carcinogenesis. 4. Aspects of the etiology of gastric adenocarcinoma
Sammanfattning : Gastric adenocarcinoma is the fourth most common malignancy and the second leading cause of cancer death in the world. Tremendous effort has been made to look into the causation of gastric cancer. Etiological research plays a key role in identifying possible preventive and interventional measures. LÄS MER
5. Tumors associated with Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer: Defective Mismatch Repair and Familial Risk of Cancer
Sammanfattning : Inactivation of the DNA mismatch repair (MMR) system is a tumorigenic mechanism involved in 15-20% of tumor types such as colorectal and endometrial cancer and is specifically associated with the Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer (HNPCC) syndrome. These MMR defective tumors are characterized by microsatellite instability (MSI), a phenomenon that reflects alterations in length of repeated sequences, and 90% of MSI tumors show loss of immunohistochemical expression for the MMR protein affected.
