  1. 1. Human muscle spindles : complex morphology and structural organisation

    Författare :Jing-Xia Liu; William K. Ovalle; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :human; muscle spindle; intrafusal fiber; aging; biceps brachii; deep muscles of the neck; MyHC; mATPase; SERCA; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Sammanfattning : Muscle spindles are skeletal muscle mechanoreceptors that mediate the stretch reflex and provide axial and limb position information to the central nervous system. They have been proposed to play a major role in the pathophysiology of muscle pain. LÄS MER

  2. 2. A Signal Processing Approach to Practical Neurophysiology : A Search for Improved Methods in Clinical Routine and Research

    Författare :Björn Hammarberg; Dick Stegeman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systemteknik; matched filter; asynchronous detection; Kalman filter; initialization; MHT; Wiener deconvolution; line source model; electromyography; needle EMG; motor unit potential; MUAP; mean fiber concentration; jitter; microneurography; C-fiber; spike sorting; Systemteknik; Systems engineering; Systemteknik; Signal Processing; signalbehandling;

    Sammanfattning : Signal processing within the neurophysiological field is challenging and requires short processing time and reliable results. In this thesis, three main problems are considered.First, a modified line source model for simulation of muscle action potentials (APs) is presented. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Post activation potentiation : Modulating factors and mechanisms for muscle performance

    Författare :Paulo Gago; Ekblom Maria; Anton Arndt; Nicola Maffiuletti; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Potentiation; twitch; triceps surae; knee angle; stiffnes; length changes; electromechanical delay; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Acute enhancements of muscle contractile properties and performance subsequent to a maximal or near maximal conditioning contraction are often termed post activation potentiation (PAP). Although still controversial, PAP is commonly linked to enhancements in the myosin regulatory light chain phosphorylation, leading to improvements in the excitation–contraction coupling. LÄS MER

  4. 4. A novel single skeletal muscle cell in vitro motility assay : effects of aging and non-enzymatic glycosylation on myosin function

    Författare :Peter Höök; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :In vitro motility; motility speed; aging; single muscle fiber; myosin isoform; temperature; scaling; glycation;

    Sammanfattning : The aims of this study were to develop a single skeletal muscle fiber in vitro motility assay, and to employ the assay in order to study the effects of aging and non-enzymatic glycosylation on the mechanical properties of the motor protein myosin in an attempt to improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the aging-related impairment in regulation of muscle function. Myosin was extracted from a millimeter short single muscle fiber segment directly onto a nitrocellulosecoated coverslip for subsequent analyses of the functional properties of the motor protein. 5. 5. MuSK Antibody(+) Versus AChR Antibody(+) Myasthenia Gravis : Clinical, Neurophysiological and Morphological Aspects

    Författare :Anna Rostedt Punga; Erik Stålberg; Hannu Kalimo; John Newsom-Davis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Neurosciences; myasthenia gravis; MuSK antibody; AChR antibody; myopathy; single-fiber EMG; mitochondria; Swedish MG questionnaire; quality of life; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune neuromuscular disorder that causes fluctuating muscle weakness. MG may be divided into an ocular form and a generalized form based on the involved muscles. Treatment differs between these different MG forms. LÄS MER
