1. Molecular Electronics : A Theoretical Study of Electronic Structure of Bulk and Interfaces
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with theoretical studies of the electronic structure of molecules used in the context of molecular electronics. Both studies with model Hamiltonians and first principle calculations have been performed. LÄS MER
2. Single-Electron Tunneling Spectroscopy in Magnetic Nanoparticles and Molecular Magnets
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with single-electron tunneling in transistor-like devices in which the central electrode is either a metal nanoparticle (possibly ferromagnetic) or a molecular magnet. The investigated systems split into two different categories, depending on the size of the central island. LÄS MER
3. Carbon-based magnetic nanomaterials
Sammanfattning : Magnetism of carbon-based materials is a challenging area for both fundamental research and possible applications. We present studies of low-dimensional carbon-based magnetic systems (fullerene-diluted molecular magnets, carbon nanotubes, graphite fluoride, and nanoporous carbon) by means of SQUID magnetometer, X-ray diffraction and vibrational spectroscopy, the latter techniques used as complementary instruments to find a correlation between the magnetic behaviour and the structure of the samples. 4. The Electronic Structure of Organic Molecular Materials : Theoretical and Spectroscopic Investigations
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis the electronic properties of two organic molecules were studied by means of density functional theory (DFT) in connection to their possible applications in organic photovoltaics and molecular spintronics respectively. The first analysed system is the C60 derivative PCBM extensively used in polymer solar cells for the charge separation process. 5. Nanospintronics with Molecular Magnets - Tunneling and Spin-Electric Coupling
Sammanfattning : This dissertation investigates theoretically electric control of the magnetic properties of molecular magnets. Two classes of magnetic molecules are considered. The first class consists of molecules that are spin frustrated. LÄS MER
