  1. 1. The Onset of Ethnic War as a Bargaining Process : Testing a Signaling Model

    Författare :Magnus Öberg; Han Dorussen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Peace and conflict research; ethnic conflict; civil war; escalation; bargaining; game theory; signaling; selection bias; Freds- och konfliktforskning; Peace and conflict research; Freds- och konfliktforskning; Peace and Conflict Research; Freds- och konfliktforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Most theories of ethnic conflict explain ethnic war by reference to the factors that motivate and enable ethnic groups to rebel. To rebel is to rise up against or challenge government authority; but for war to be the outcome of a challenge the government must attempt to forcefully reassert its authority. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Adrenergic signaling in insulin-sensitive tissues

    Författare :Daniel L. Yamamoto; Tore Bengtsson; Barbara Cannon; Michael Cawthorne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metabolism; Adrenergic; Glucose; Signaling; Skeletal muscle; Animal physiology; Zoofysiologi; zoofysiologi; Zoological physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Glucose metabolism in insulin-sensitive tissues such as skeletal muscle and adipose tissue is tightly regulated by external stimuli. Metabolic changes in these tissues have direct effects on whole body metabolism. Such metabolic changes can be induced or influenced by adrenergic stimulation. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Cardiovascular beta-adrenergic signaling : Maturation and programming effects of hypoxia in a chicken model

    Författare :Isa Lindgren; Jordi Altimiras; Eduardo Villamor; Laura Bennet; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Despite the importance of β-adrenergic receptors (βARs) in cardiovascular disease, not much is known about how prenatal hypoxia effects βAR signaling in the postnatal animal. Thus, the aim of this thesis was to characterize the pre- and postnatal maturation of the cardiovascular βARs and the effects of chronic prenatal hypoxia on βAR signaling in the embryo and adult animal using the chicken as experimental model. 4. 4. Canertinib-induced leukemia cell death signaling : effects of a pan-ERBB inhibitor

    Författare :Cecilia Trinks; Thomas Walz; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Anna-Lotta Hallbeck; Dan Grandér; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) is the most common acute leukemia affecting adults, the second most frequent leukemia in children, and remains one of the most difficult to cure. Despite a substantial progress in understanding the pathogenesis of AML, general and rather unspecific cytostatic drugs such as cytarabine and anthracyclins still make up the cornerstones of therapy. 5. 5. Going from Lineside to In-cab Railway Signaling : Driveability Issues and Solutions

    Författare :Tomas Rosberg; Oskar Fröidh; Thorslund Birgitta; Behzad Kordnejad; Birgit Milius; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ERTMS; ETCS; Driving behavior; signaling; Transportsystem; Transport Systems;

    Sammanfattning : From many perspectives there is a need to understand more of how capacity, signal systems, anddriving behavior interact, and naturally since ERTMS is in its early stage, some areas are stillunexplored. The number of retrofitted ERTMS lines and new designed ERTMS lines are increasing inEurope, which implies extra focus on the capacity optimization in the network planning process. LÄS MER
