1. Effects of warming and browning on benthic and pelagic ecosystem components in shallow lakes
Sammanfattning : The majority of lakes on Earth are shallow, unproductive and located at high latitudes. These lakes are experiencing big changes due to climate change, where two environmental drivers operate simultaneously, browning and warming. How they affect lake ecosystems is not well understood. 2. Spring dynamics in shallow lakes: the role of plankton, fish and macrophytes in a changing climate
Sammanfattning : Shallow lakes such as Lake Krankesjön are characterized by their extended littoral zones, usually covered by submersed and emergent vegetation. In paper 1, I investigated the relationship between turbidity and macrophyte growth (Chara spp. LÄS MER
3. Greenhouse Gas Dynamics in Ice-covered Lakes Across Spatial and Temporal Scales
Sammanfattning : Lakes play a major role in the global carbon (C) cycle, despite making up a small area of earth’s surface. Lakes receive, transport and process sizable amounts of C, emitting a substantial amount of the greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4), into the atmosphere. LÄS MER
4. The palaeolimnological record of regime shifts in lakes in response to climate change
Sammanfattning : Regime shifts in lake ecosystems can occur in response to both abrupt and continuous climate change, and the imprints they leave in palaeolimnological records allow us to investigate and better understand patterns and processes governing ecological changes on geological time scales. This thesis aims at investigating palaeolimnological records of regime shifts in lakes during the Holocene to explore how lake ecosystems responded to climate changes and anthropogenic activities and to identify thresholds or tipping points that produced regime shifts.
