1. Socio-economic differentiation and selective migration in rural and urban Sweden
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to analyse migration and socio-economic differentiation in rural and urban spaces: where people move, what the characteristics of migrants are and whether experiences of rural and urban space affect attitudes toward the local living environment and place attachment. The background consists of five themes discussing different aspects of socio-economic differentiation and selective migration, for example polarization and rural gentrification. LÄS MER
2. The involvement of gangliosides in growth and migration of human glioblastoma cells
Sammanfattning : Human glioblastoma is a primary brain tumour with a bad prognosis. One major contributing factor is that the tumour grows in an infiltrative way. Single tumour cells, undetectable with today's techniques, invade the brain and escape therapy. LÄS MER
3. Evolutionary dynamics of migration and breeding in wild birds: genetic architecture, sexual conflicts and evolutionary constraints
Sammanfattning : Our knowledge of the evolutionary potential of traits involved in different selective episodes, especially in natural populations, is still limited. This is true for questions such as the genetic basis and inheritance of traits, how natural and sexual selection acts on them, and how selective conflicts influence the evolutionary response to selection. 4. Photon migration in tissue : laser induced fluorescence for cancer diagnostics and influence of optical properties on microvascular Doppler spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : Laser induced flourescence (LIF) is an "optical biopsy" method, based on the selective accumulation of fluorophores in neoplastic tissue. Two recently developed, non-photosensitizing tumor seeking carotenoporphyrins were assessed regarding tumor selectivity, and biodistribution, in experimental animals. LÄS MER
5. Working towards Modernity. Migration and Skills Development at the Frontiers of Racial Capitalism in Tunisia
Sammanfattning : In the wake of the political salience of migration, projects that target employability and/or entrepreneurial thinking have become important components of European development interventions that address ‘irregular’ migration in Tunisia and elsewhere in recent years. Working towards Modernity investigates the rationales behind and consequences of such skills development projects. LÄS MER
