1. Biases in Visual Selective Attention : Trait Anxious Individuals Avert Their Gaze From Unpleasant Stimuli
Sammanfattning : Cognitive models of anxiety postulate that anxious individuals are inclined to pay more attention to negative than to positive emotional visual stimuli. The main aim of the present dissertation was to test this prediction, employing a measure of the direction of gaze. LÄS MER
2. Tracking selective attention in a musical cocktail
Sammanfattning : The cocktail party effect refers to mankind’s ability to focus attention on a single sound within noisy or complex auditory environments, in order to extract the most behaviourally-relevant information present. To investigate this cognitive phenomenon in a precise manner, we used frequency-tagging to separate neural auditory steady-state responses (ASSRs), which are specific to the driving frequency of each auditory source, from a neural mix elicited by multiple simultaneous stimuli. 3. Children’s Brainwaves in Semantic Processing, Auditory Discrimination and Selective Attention : – in Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing and Typically Hearing Populations
Sammanfattning : DOCTORAL DISSERTATIONDoctoral dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the Faculties of Humanities and Theology at Lund University to be publicly defended on the 14th of February at 13.00 in room LUX:B336, Lund University Cognitive Science, Helgonavägen 3, LundFaculty opponent:Professor Dr. LÄS MER
4. The neural mechanisms of selective attention : Investigation of insect selective attention during visual object tracking using neurophysiology, neuroanatomy, computational modelling
Sammanfattning : The brain simulates the world around us using sensory information and provides an estimation of reality in which actions can be executed. This estimation of reality is controlled by attention which decides which information is accepted, further processed and ignored. LÄS MER
5. Language and executive functions in Swedish preschoolers
Sammanfattning : The main goals of this dissertation are to investigate the associations between language and executive functions, including selective auditory attention, in Swedish children aged 4–6, to examine possible links to factors relating to the child and his/her social environment, and to evaluate preschool interventions with regard to potential improvements in language and/or executive functions. Measures were obtained by combining results from behavioral tests, language samples in the form of narratives, parent and teacher ratings and a measure of selective auditory attention as brain activity.
