  1. 21. Regulation of Islet Function by the Neuropeptide PACAP

    Författare :Karin Filipsson; Diabetes - molekylär metabolism; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; postprandial; calcium; sodium; cAMP; intracellular signaling; glucagon; insulin; Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide; PACAP receptors; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : It is known that parasympathetic, sympathetic and sensory nerves innervate the islets and that these nerves harbor both classical neurotransmitters and neuropeptides. However, the neural influence on islet hormone release is complex and not yet fully understood A recently discovered pancreatic neuropeptide is pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP). 2. 22. The Free Fatty Acid Receptor GPR40 - expression and role in islet hormone secretion

    Författare :Erik Flodgren; Lund Medicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; secreting systems; Endocrinology; GPCR; Glucagon; GPR40; Insulin; Free fatty acid; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a serious condition of growing proportions. Developing via an increasing imbalance between insulin sensitivity in the peripheral tissues and insulin release from pancreatic beta-cells, it ultimately renders the individual incapable of regulating the blood glucose concentration, e.g. after a meal. 3. 23. Type 2 Diabetes Genes Contributing to Insulin Secretion Defects

    Författare :Charlotte Granhall; Genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sekretion; Endokrinologi; exocytosis; GK rat; NIDDM1I; genetics; gene expression; quantitative trait analysis; Sorcs1; Adra2a; Endocrinology; diabetology; insulin secretion; diabetologi; secreting systems; Type 2 diabetes;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes is caused by a combination of environmental and inherited factors influencing the progression of insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion leading to chronically elevated blood glucose levels. The aim of this thesis was to functionally and genetically characterise the species-conserved diabetes locus Niddm1i of the GK rat encoding hyperglycaemia and defect insulin secretion. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Insulin Signalling and Regulation of Protein Kinase B in Adipocytes

    Författare :Olga Göransson; Proteinfosforylering; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; secreting systems; Endocrinology; PDK1; PKB; diabetes; insulin; adipocyte;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin resistance is a hallmark of type 2 diabetes, an increasingly common disorder. The cause of insulin resistance is supposedly failures in the processes used by insulin to signal to the interior of its target cells. These failing steps are still unknown, most probably because of incomplete knowledge of how the insulin signals are transmitted. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO): A novel class of messenger molecules regulating insulin and glucagon secretion

    Författare :Ragnar Henningsson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carbon monoxide CO ; nitric oxide NO ; Nitric oxide synthase NOS ; Insulin and glucagon secretion; cyclic nucleotides; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; Heme oxygenase HO ;

    Sammanfattning : During the last decade it has been shown that nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO) are produced in our own body, and that they constitute a novel class of messenger molecules. In 1992 a constitutive NO-producing NO-synthase (cNOS) was found in the islets of Langerhans, and in 1997 we could show for the first time that the islets also contained a CO-producing constitutive heme oxygenase (HO-2).
