1. Seismic tomography : Inversion for P- and S-wave velocities
Sammanfattning : Seismology is undoubtedly the most powerful method for determining the structure of the Earth below the deepest borehole. This thesis describes the, use of seismic signals from both man-made and earthquake sources to model seismic velocities within a volume of the Earth. LÄS MER
2. Seismic Exploration Solutions for Deep-Targeting Metallic Mineral Deposits : From high-fold 2D to sparse 3D, and deep-learning workflows
Sammanfattning : Mineral exploration has in recent years moved its focus to greater depths than ever before, particularly in brown fields. Exploring new deposits at depth, if economical, would not only expand the life of mine but also provide minimal environmental impacts. It allows the existing mining infrastructures to be used for a longer period. LÄS MER
3. Three-component digital-based seismic landstreamer : Methodologies for infrastructure planning applications
Sammanfattning : To support urban infrastructure planning projects, along with various other near-surface applications, a multicomponent landstreamer was developed. The landstreamer was built with broadband (0-800 Hz), three-component (3C) micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) sensors. LÄS MER
4. Active and passive seismic methods for investigating the glacially-triggered Burträsk fault
Sammanfattning : Glacially-triggered faults are of high scientific interest since their formation was likely accompanied by major earthquakes and they are still a centre of seismicity in northern Fennoscandia, today. Imaging their deeper structure mainly relies on reflection seismics since the method generally has the best resolving power at depth of all geophysical methods. LÄS MER
5. Seismic-Reflection and Seismic-Refraction Imaging of the South Portuguese Zone Fold-and-Thrust Belt
Sammanfattning : The South Portuguese Zone (SPZ), which host world-class massive sulphide deposits, forms the southern fold-and-thrust belt of the Iberian Variscan orogeny. This thesis focuses on seismic-reflection and seismic-refraction processing efforts on a subset of the IBERSEIS deep seismic-reflection data set aiming at resolving the SPZ upper crust in high resolution.
