  1. 1. Towards a Scenario-based Spatial Dynamic Modeling for Predicting Urban Land Use Change : Planning Tools and Comparative Analysis

    Författare :Zipan Cai; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Fredrik Gröndahl; Brian Deal; Stan Geertman; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; urbanization; planning support system; spatial dynamic model; urban land use change; spatial analysis; human-land interaction; socioeconomics; ecological systems; urban amenities; environmental impact assessment; what-if; decision-making; urbanisering; planeringsstödsystem; rumslig dynamisk modell; förändring av stadsmarkanvändning; rumslig analys; mänsklig-land interaktion; socioekonomi; ekologiska system; urbana bekvämligheter; miljökonsekvensbeskrivning; vad-om; beslutsfattande; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : As global urbanization progresses, cities worldwide are growing in size, which leads to many economic, environmental, and management challenges. Recent advancements in spatial data analysis and algorithmic geography have also led to the development of various urban model-based planning support systems (PSS) for urban planning. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Optimization of process integration investments under energy market uncertainties

    Författare :Elin Svensson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; stochastic programming; scenario-based modelling; investment planning; process integration;

    Sammanfattning : The increased climate concern in society puts pressure on industries to decrease their energy use in different ways, and a number of studies show that there is a large potential for improved energy efficiency in the energy-intensive industry, for example through process integration. Uncertainties about future energy prices and policy instruments make it, however, difficult to evaluate and compare different kinds of energy-saving measures with respect to net present value as well as reduction of CO2 emissions. 3. 3. Optimization of Investments for Strategic Process Integration and Pulp Mill Biorefinery Projects under Uncertainty

    Författare :Elin Svensson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; pulp and paper industry; investment planning; biorefinery; scenario-based modelling.; stochastic programming; Process integration;

    Sammanfattning : Energy-intensive industrial plants operate in a changing, uncertain environment. Long-term changes are expected in energy prices, political regulations and technology development. Pulp and paper companies, like many other industries, are under strong pressure to respond to these changes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Responding to Terrorist Attacks on Rail Bound Traffic : Challenges for Inter-organizational Collaboration

    Författare :Veronica Strandh; Jan Engberg; Helena Lindholm Schultz; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; crisis management; terrorism; rail bound traffic; interorganizational collaboration; disaster medicine; scenario-based planning; preparedness; response; security;

    Sammanfattning : Contemporary terrorism is becoming increasingly indiscriminate, and rail bound traffic appears to be vulnerable and at high risk for terrorist attacks. An attack targeting a train or subway system can have enormous implications, both in terms of human suffering and long-term societal consequences. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Advancing formative control room system evaluation – Decision support for human factors evaluation planning and method development

    Författare :Eva Simonsen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; human factors; nuclear power; control room system; design; formative evaluation methods;

    Sammanfattning : The design of the nuclear power plant (NPP) control room system affects the operation of the plant it controls, as well as the well-being of its operators. One important activity in control room system development is Human Factors (HF) evaluation. Previous research indicates that HF evaluation practice for NPP control room systems can be improved.
