1. Retinal glucose metabolism and blood flow : Effects of photic stimulation
Sammanfattning : Retinal glucose metabolism was investigated under different light conditions in cats, pigs and rabbits. Glycolysis and glucose oxidation in the outer and inner parts of theretina were assessed by determining arteriovenous concentration differences foroxygen, glucose and lactate, as well as local blood flow. 2. Clinical Studies on Dark Adaptation: with Particular Reference to Carotid Artery Disease
Sammanfattning : Purpose: To study dark adaptation in patients with symptomatic carotid artery disease or polycythemia before and after treatment. This necessitated determinations of pupillary changes as such may influence the findings. To determine whether changes in the retinal blood flow in light and darkness occur in healthy humans. LÄS MER
3. Optical Coherence Tomography for Dermatological Applications
Sammanfattning : Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive optical imaging technique providing approximately 10 micrometer resolution of tissue in vivo. Within ophthalmology, OCT has already proven its value and is routinely used for diagnosing retinal diseases. LÄS MER
4. Studies on Retinal Circulation in Experimental Animals, Healthy Human Eyes and Eyes with Diabetic Retinopathy
Sammanfattning : The retina is a highly metabolically active tissue with large demands on the supply of nutrients. Disorders affecting the retina often include some vasculopathy with an impact on retinal circulation. LÄS MER
5. Interactions between neural retina, retinal epithelium and choroid
Sammanfattning : The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) is a non-replicating monolayer that plays a key role nursing the photoreceptors of the neural retina, regulating fluid movement within the subretinal space, maintaining a basal laminar layer of Bruch s membrane, and influencing the choriocapillaris. This project investigates how surgical manipulation of the retinal epithelial layer influences the neural retina, the choroid and the epithelial layer itself. LÄS MER
