  1. 1. Deviant sexual behavior, hormones and sex-chromosomal relationship : A study in the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR)

    Författare :Anders Wall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; SHR; WKY; Rat; Copulatory performance; Deviant sexual behavior; Neuroendocrine mechanisms; Neonatal; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning; Neurology; neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of the present thesis was to gain insight into some biological factors that influencedeviant sexual performance. Two inbred strains selectively bred (hypertension) from the same Wistarrat colony were used: the spontaneously hypertensive rat (SHR) and its normotensive progenitor theWistar Kyoto rat (WKY). 2. 2. Development and Evaluation of Web Applications for Investigating Candidate Genes in Rat Models of Complex Diseases

    Författare :Lars Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :rat; complex disease; rheumatoid arthritis; type 2 diabetes mellitus; QTL; candidate genes; web application; text mining;

    Sammanfattning : Many human diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and type 2 diabetes mellitus, have a very complex development, depending on both environmental and multiple genetic factors. By crossing inbred rat strains susceptible to a genetic disorder with strains resistant to the same disorder, genomic regions associated with the disease can be identified, so called quantitative trait loci (QTLs). 3. 3. Inflammation in Parkinson’s Disease and Experimental Neural Transplantation. Role of Cellular Responses, Cytokines and Immunosuppression in Graft Rejection

    Författare :Bilal Mirza; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; graft rejection.; pig; human; rat; xenogeneic; allogeneic; syngeneic; transplantation immunology; immunosuppression; cytokines; neural transplantation; Parkinson’s Disease; inflammation; neurodegeneration; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder. There is no proven protection, but many treatments can partially improve symptoms. The disease is caused by monogenetic mechanisms in very few cases, but for the majority of patients the etiology is unknown. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Experimental and Clinical Studies of Oxidative Stress in Pre-Eclampsia

    Författare :Peppi Nash; Ulf Eriksson; Matts Olovsson; Leif Jansson; Lucilla Poston; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Obstetrics and gynaecology; Pre-eclampsia; Oxidative stress; Diabetes; Placenta; Rat; Antioxidants; Suramin; Vitamin E; Vitamin C; PAI-1; PAI-2; Obstetrik och kvinnosjukdomar;

    Sammanfattning : Impaired placentation and oxidative stress are proposed to play major roles in the pathogenesis of pre-eclampsia (PE). It has recently been pointed out that PE might be more than one disease and may have several different pathogeneses. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Gastrointestinal mucosal protective mechanisms : Mudolatory effects of Heliobacter pyroli on the gastric mucus gel barrier and mucosal blood flow in vivo

    Författare :Christer Atuma; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; mucus gel layer; mucosal blood flow; mucus thickness; chronic infection; rat; platelet activating factor; mast cell; nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthase; ketotifen; intra-vital microscopy; microelectrode; laser-Doppler flowmetry; L-NNA; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal mucus gel layer and blood flow are two important mechanisms for protection at the pre-epithelial and sub-epithelial levels, respectively. Helicobacter pylori might circumvent these mechanisms and elicit a chronic inflammatory response with consequent ulcers in the stomach and duodenum. LÄS MER
