1. Photonic quantum information and experimental tests of foundations of quantum mechanics
Sammanfattning : Entanglement is a key resource in many quantum information schemes and in the last years the research on multi-qubit entanglement has drawn lots of attention. In this thesis the experimental generation and characterisation of multi-qubit entanglement is presented. Specifically we have prepared entangled states of up to six qubits. LÄS MER
2. The threat from non indigenous species - ecosystem vulnerability, global distribution and co-occurrence with other major threats
Sammanfattning : We live in a globalised world where people and goods travel large distances. Various species are brought along on these journeys, intentionally or as hitchhikers. Some of these species establish populations in regions to which they could not have spread without human assistance, and where they are considered to be non indigenous species (NIS). LÄS MER
3. Rarity in boreal stream: patterns, causes and consequences
Sammanfattning : Patterns of site occupancy among boreal stream insects were studied in central Sweden with focus on sparsely distributed species and the role of dispersal and niche limitations. In the study of dispersal limitation, I found that effects of an extraordinarily harsh winter in small to medium-sized streams were strongest in sites located in small streams and far from lake outlets. 4. Healthcare Priority Setting and Rare Diseases : What Matters When Reimbursing Orphan Drugs
Sammanfattning : The rarity of a disease can give rise to challenges that differ from conventional diseases. For example, rarity hampers research and development of new drugs, and patients with severe, rare diseases have limited access to qualified treatments. When drugs are available, clinical evidence has higher uncertainty and the drugs can be very expensive. LÄS MER
5. Studies on spatial and temporal distributions of epiphytic lichens
Sammanfattning : Lichens are an important group of organisms in terms of environmental issues, conservation biology and biodiversity, principally due to their sensitivity to changes in their environment. Therefore it is important that we develop our understanding of the factors that affect lichen distribution. LÄS MER
