    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to examine the effectiveness of the Illness Management and Recovery (IMR) program for teaching clients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder to better manage their illness and to promote recovery. This was accomplished through an examination of the program’s effects on psychosocial functioning and psychopathology, the evaluation of general and specific impact of neurocognition on learning the fundamentals of illness self-management, and the impact of symptom severity on outcome of the IMR program.     Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis, with four empirical studies, was to explore the applicability of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, version for children and youth (ICF-CY) to describe functioning and environment of children with disabilities. The components and categories in the ICF-CY were explored by studying items in ICF-CY based questionnaires in studies I and II and by linking texts of individual habilitation plans to the ICF-CY in studies III and IV. This thesis investigated long-term associations between midlife psychosocial working conditions and late-life health and leisure and examined whether sense of coherence in midlife modified the association between psychosocial working conditions and all-cause mortality.
