1. Structural and evolutionary studies of a lipocalin: the alpha1-microglobulin protein and its gene
Sammanfattning : a1-microglobulin is a small glycoprotein present in plasma and in tissues surrounding the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts. a1-microglobulin is a member of the lipocalin protein family and exhibits several of the typical traits of a lipocalin; it binds an unknown ligand which causes the brown color of the protein, it forms complexes with various different proteins and there have been indications of the presence of a receptor for a1-microglobulin on T-lymphocytes. 2. Structure and distribution of alpha-1-microglobulin proteins
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies of the structure and tissue distribution of alpha-1-microglobulin (a1-m), a member of the lipocalin protein superfamily with immunosuppressive properies. It was shown that a1-m appears in human plasma in five major forms. LÄS MER
3. Renal dysfunction in orthopaedic surgery - with special reference to drug effects in the elderly
Sammanfattning : Total hip replacement (THR) is a common procedure, generally performed in elderly persons. Previous studies indicated that the use of isoxazolyl penicillins could induce a transient post-operative renal dysfunction in these patients. LÄS MER
4. Hempseed cake as a protein feed for ruminants
Sammanfattning : Increasing the use of locally produced protein feeds in ruminant production systems in northern Europe would be a valuable development. Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) can be cultivated at high latitudes and cold-pressing the seeds to extract the oil produces a residue, hempseed cake (HC), with a high protein content. LÄS MER
5. Synthesis, Function, and Inactivation of Blood Coagulation Factor V
Sammanfattning : Blood coagulation factor V (FV) is a 330 kDa plasma glycoprotein. Activated FV (FVa) is a non-enzymatic cofactor to activated Factor X in the activation of prothrombin that occurs during coagulation. LÄS MER
