    Sammanfattning : This thesis is not primarily about ‘the rights and wrongs of prostitution’, at least not as they are conveyed in the prostitution debate, rather it aims to shift the focus from what prostitution is (work or violence, empowerment or exploitation), the topic of most prostitution debate, to how prostitution operates. That is, how power relations, knowledges, discourses and practices interconnect in making particular forms of prostitution and particular ways of making sense of prostitution experience possible.     Sammanfattning : This dissertation studies the development of a regulation of prostitution in Stockholm during the period 1812-1880. The development of the regulation system is seen in the light of an analytical framework, developed from Carole Pateman's ideas on the sexual contract, and a feministic critique and elaboration of Jürgen Habermas's ideas on the public sphere.     Sammanfattning : This dissertation deals with regulated prostitution in Stockholm around 1900. The regulation forced women who were regarded as loose to submit to medical examinations twice a weak, and to obey a separate set of rules. The prinicipal and outspoken purpose of this regulation was to restrain the spread of contagious venereal diseases. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Towards the end of the twentieth century, both Germany and Sweden engaged in extensive discussions on prostitution – discussions that resulted in two very different prostitution policies.
