  1. 1. Transcriptional regulation of the latent membrane protein 1 gene by Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen 2

    Författare :Lars Palmqvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epstein-Barr virus; B-cell; transformation; LMP1; EBNA2; transcription; phosphorylation; histone acetylation;

    Sammanfattning : The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a ubiquitous human herpes virus, which infects B-cells. This leads to a life-long latent infection, which in most cases is non-pathogenic. However, EBV is etiologically associated with several human malignancies, including endemic Burkitt's lymphoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and post-transplant lymphoma. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The nervous system of box jellyfish: A surprisingly complex system in a simple animal

    Författare :Linda Parkefelt; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; proliferating cell nuclear antigen; arginine vasotocin; RFamide; immunofluorescence; visual system; nervous system; Tripedalia cystophora; Cnidaria; box jellyfish;

    Sammanfattning : The four surprisingly complex visual sensory organs of cubomedusae, the rhopalia, contain each six eyes of four morphologically different types, two of which are camera-type eyes. This means that the evolutionary basal nervous system of cubomedusae must process the visual signals received from a total of 24 rhopalial eyes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Corneal cellular proliferation and wound healing

    Författare :Lisha Gan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :cornea; cell proliferation; wound healing; stem-cells; leukocytes; PCNA; hyaluronan; alkali injury; photorefractive keratectomy;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cellular proliferation plays an important role in both physiological and pathological processes. Epithelial hyperplasia in the epithelium, excessive scar formation in retrocorneal membrane formation and neovascularization are examples of excessive proliferation of cornea cells. Lack of proliferative ability causes corneal degeneration. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Impact of alcohol and drug abuse on hippocampal neurogenesis in humans

    Författare :Gopalakrishnan Dhanabalan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Hippocampus is one of the few brain regions in which adult neurogenesis is known to occur. Adult neurogenesis in the hippocampus is considered to be important for higher cognitive function, most notably in memory processes and mood regulation. Alcohol abusers are often diagnosed with memory dysfunction. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The use of protein biomarkers in ecotoxicology : Studies of oxidative and genotoxic stress in the blue mussel (Mytilus edulis)

    Författare :Andreas Prevodnik; Michael Tedengren; Tomas Bollner; Kari Lehtonen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi; Ecotoxicology; ekotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Many environmental pollutants, heavy metals and polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) among them, are toxic by oxidative stress. Oxidative stress may be defined as a state in an organism when its inherent capacity to handle oxyradicals is surpassed, and it may result in peroxidation of lipids, and damage to proteins and DNA.
