1. Gamow -Teller Beta Decay in Drip Line Nuclei
Sammanfattning : Before radioactive ion beams became available, the Gamow-Teller (GT) giant resonance was studied using charge-exchange reactions such as (p,n) and (He,t). In beta-stable nuclei, which can be used as targets, the GT giant resonance lies above the ground state of the mother nucleus. LÄS MER
2. Modelling transport of non-spherical particles in laminar flow
Sammanfattning : A model has been developed that can be used to predict the transport of non-spherical particles in the nano- and micro scale range for different applications. This may be the flow in the lungs or flow taking place during composites manufacturing, but the model can be applied to many applications where the particle Stokes and Reynolds numbers are small. 3. Modelling Transport of Non-Spherical Particles in Small Channel Flow
Sammanfattning : A model has been developed to predict the movement of oblate and prolate particles on amicro- and nano-scale in laminar channel flow, both for purposes of statistical aggregationand to study motion of single particles. For the purpose of this thesis the model has beenadapted to examine particle deposition patterns in the human lung and the filtration ofparticles during manufacturing of composites, but the possibilities of the model extendto all areas where the particle Stokes and Reynolds numbers are small. 4. Modeling of dielectrophoresis in micro and nano systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents models and simulations of dielectrophoretic separation of micro and nano particles. The fluid dynamics involved and the dielectric properties of water inside single-walled carbon nanotube are studied as well. LÄS MER
5. Large Eddy Simulation of Complex Turbulent Flows
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the Large Eddy Simulation methodology and its application to predict complex turbulent flows at high Reynolds numbers, and at times also with high Mach numbers. The meaning of the word ?complex? refers both to the presence of complex flow phenomena and the, often, complex geometry of man-made devices restricting the flow. LÄS MER
