1. The Light-up Probe
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis concerns the development of light-up probes and their potential applications in PCR based molecular diagnostics. The light-up probe is a nucleic acid analog (here PNA) oligomer linked to an asymmetric cyanine dye (here thiazole orange) and it combines the excellent hybridization properties of PNA with the large fluorescence enhancement of the dye upon binding to DNA. 3. Constructing and Commissioning HELIOS – A High Harmonic Generation Source for Pump-Probe Measurements with sub 50 fs Temporal Resolution : The Development of Experimental Equipment for Extreme Ultraviolet Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents HELIOS, an in-house laboratory for time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy with extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) probe radiation. A wide span of pump wavelengths can be generated using commercial laser equipment while XUV probe radiation is generated via a high harmonic generation process in a noble gas delivering probe photons with energies between 20 eV and 72 eV. 4. Force measurements using scanning probe microscopy : Applications to advanced powder processing
Sammanfattning : The object of this thesis is to apply scanning probemicroscopy (SPM) to the field of advanced powder processing.Measurement of interparticle surface forces at conditionsrelevant to ceramic processing has been performed together withthorough studies of powder friction. LÄS MER
5. Fluid Dynamics of the Transport Zone of Circulating Fluidized Beds - with Application to Boilers
Sammanfattning : The particle suspension flow structure in circulating fluidized beds (CFB) was studied with emphasis on the layer of downflowing particles at the wall. The main experiments were carried out in the furnace of the 12 MWth CFB boiler of 1.7x1.7 m cross-section, and in a two-dimensional CFB cold bed of 0. LÄS MER
