21. Silencing and DNA double-strand break repair in budding yeast
Sammanfattning : Transcriptional silencing that makes large chromosomal domains inaccessible for the transcriptional apparatus is nucleated at DNA elements called silencers. In K.lactis a 102bp HMLα silencer was defined revealing three distinct protein-binding regions (A, B, and C) that were required for silencing of HMLα. LÄS MER
22. Clonidine in paediatric anaesthesia : pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic aspects
Sammanfattning : Clonidine is a mixed alpha-2/alpha-1 adrenoceptor agonist. It reduces sympathetic and increases parasympathetic tone which results in a lowering of the baseline blood pressure and heart rate. LÄS MER
23. Phage–derived Endolysins as Potential Antibacterials : A Study of Peptidoglycan Hydrolase and Mycolylarabinogalactan Esterase Enzymes
Sammanfattning : Bacteriophages, or phages, are viruses that infect bacteria, at the end of their life cycle produce a set of enzymes called endolysins to lyse host cells from within, facilitating the release of the viral progeny. Due to their lytic activity, endolysins have gained great interest as potential antibacterials targeting both Gram–positive and –negative bacteria, especially in the actual context of increasing rates of antibiotics resistance. 24. Essays on the term structure of interest rates and monetary policy
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four empirical essays, summarized below. In “On Alternative Interest Rate Processes'' the interest rate dynamics for four European countries are studied. There seems to be a positive relation between the interest rate level and the volatility of interest rate changes. LÄS MER
25. Structural dynamics of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase
Sammanfattning : Ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco) assimilates carbon dioxide (CO2) from air into biomass. Due to its slow turnover, the reaction is a rate-limiting step in photosynthetic carbon fixation. LÄS MER
