11. Locating Biotech Innovation : Places, Flows and Unruly Processes
Sammanfattning : This thesis begins by making two observations. First, that the regional economic landscapes in which we all live our daily lives, and which provide the basis for employment and prosperity, are constantly changing. LÄS MER
12. Linear and non-linear dynamics of non-autonomous flows
Sammanfattning : Fluid flows subject to time-dependent external forces or boundary conditions are ubiquitous in biology and technical applications. Whether one considers birds flying by flapping their wings or the gust response of wind turbines, the flow is non-autonomous. LÄS MER
13. From irrotational flows to turbulent dynamos
Sammanfattning : Many of the celestial bodies we know are found to be magnetized:the Earth, many of the planets so far discovered, the Sun and other stars, the interstellar space, the Milky Way and other galaxies. The reason for that is still to be fully understood, and this work is meant to be a step in that direction. 14. Turbulence-resolving Simulations of Swirling Flows
Sammanfattning : A series of numerical investigations is undertaken using a wide range of turbulence mod-els including conventional and non-conventional URANS models, hybrid URANS-LESmethods and LES to capture a large variety of physical mechanisms that produce pres-sure pulsations in the swirling flows. The available knowledge about these pulsations, which are usual in hydropower, are still far from complete. LÄS MER
15. An evaluation of regional sustainability by analysing energy and carbon flows – A study of Jämtland, Sweden
Sammanfattning : Models showing the anthropogenic and natural flows of two sustainability indicators; carbon based GHG and energy (as work energy) have been made for the Swedish region Jämtland. The methodology used was inspired by the study sustainability analysis conducted on the small Danish island Samsø using the above two indicators. LÄS MER
