1. Dielectric Properties of Liquid-Impregnated Porous Solids
Sammanfattning : Dielectric spectroscopy is a versatile tool that can often be used as a non-destructive, indirect way of measuring other important properties (such as content of crude oil or degree of curing of a resin). The dielectric properties of materials are thus of interest in several circumstances and not only for materials used for electrical purposes (such as electrical insulation). LÄS MER
2. On Computational Homogenization of Flow in Porous Media
Sammanfattning : Porous materials are present in many natural as well as engineered structures. Engineering examples of porous materials include sandstone in which oil can be stored, earth dams, composite materials, air filters and sanitary products with fiber networks (e.g. diapers). LÄS MER
3. On the Modeling of Porous Media with Emphasis on Localization
Sammanfattning : The mechanics of porous media is nowadays relevant in a broad spectrum of engineering applications. In the case of geomaterials, the description of the mechanical behavior is complicated by the fact that the deformation characteristics involve (strain) localization, which is indeed the main topic of this thesis. 4. Diffusion of Water in Foods during Heating
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this research was to improve the knowledge of diffusion of water in foods during heating, so that the final quality of foods after heat processing could be predicted and controlled. The work consisted of three main parts. The first part involved the development of a method to study the diffusion. LÄS MER
5. Modelling of Mass and Heat Transport in Paper - Evaluation of Mechanisms and Shrinkage
Sammanfattning : In this work a one-dimensional model for the mass and heat transport in the thickness direction of paper has been developed. Solid-based coordinates were applied to simplify incorporation of shrinkage. Liquid diffusion, gas convection and vapour and air diffusion were incorporated as mass transport mechansims. LÄS MER
