1. Exploring glycoside hydrolase family 5 (GH5) enzymes
Sammanfattning : In 1990, the classification of carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes) was introduced by the scientist Bernard Henrissat. According to sequence similarity, these enzymes were separated into families with conserved structures and reaction mechanisms. LÄS MER
2. Functional and Renewable Galactoglucomannan-based Hydrogels
Sammanfattning : Polysaccharides represent an important resource for a variety of products, from food via fuel supply to functional materials of every kind. Here they are, due to their natural diversity found in many special applications, e.g. in the biomedical sector. LÄS MER
3. Structure and Dynamics of Hydrated Biopolymers
Sammanfattning : Hydrated polysaccharide systems primarily using xylans along with mutans and alternans were studied using long atomistic simulations over a few microseconds to analyse structure-function relationships and nanoscale interactions with moisture. The influence of various structural and chemical factors such as alignment, nature of glycosidic linkage, effect of moisture / chemical substitutions was explored with a focus on structure-dynamics correlations to aid in the effective functionalisation of biomaterials for the development of a green, circular bioeconomy. 4. Structure and Function of Beta-Mannanases from Glycoside Hydrolase Clan A. A Study of Hemicellulases from Microbes and a Mollusc
Sammanfattning : Hemicellulose is the second most abundant group of renewable polysaccharides. Mannans can be found as the major hemicellulose in softwood and as storage polysaccharides in a range of plants. In this work, structural and functional characterisations of family 5 and 26 endo-1,4-b-mannanases (b-mannanases) have been performed. LÄS MER
5. Polysaccharide-based wood adhesives
Sammanfattning : It is highly desirable to increase the use of renewable resources and reduce fossil-dependence due to sustainability concerns. As a consequence, it is expected that the use of the wood-based materials will increase in the future. Therefore, adhesives will have an important role since they allow for the use of lower-quality and recycled wood. LÄS MER
